Verra Joins SSFA to Strengthen Southeast Asia’s Climate Finance Ecosystem

Verra, the nonprofit global standard-setter for climate and sustainability action, has officially joined the Singapore Sustainable Finance Association (SSFA) to accelerate the development of high-integrity carbon markets and climate finance in Southeast Asia. The move underscores Verra’s growing presence in the region as it aligns its expertise with Singapore’s ambition to be a global hub for sustainable finance.

“Southeast Asia’s role in driving sustainable finance and climate solutions is critical, and Singapore is at the heart of this transformation,” said Angelo Sartori, Verra’s Senior Director for Regional Engagement.

Advancing Carbon Integrity and Biodiversity Finance

Through this new partnership, Verra will actively contribute to SSFA’s collaborative platforms that address key areas such as:

  • Carbon market development with a focus on transparency, credibility, and alignment with global standards.
  • Transition finance, helping to mobilize capital toward decarbonization pathways for carbon-intensive sectors.
  • Natural capital and biodiversity, enhancing the flow of finance toward ecosystem protection and restoration.

Verra’s participation supports Singapore’s efforts to lead in green finance innovation while addressing critical regional vulnerabilities to climate change, deforestation, and biodiversity loss.

Deepening Regional Impact

With Southeast Asia home to some of the world’s most carbon-rich landscapes and climate-sensitive economies, Verra’s role is pivotal in guiding the market toward quality, high-impact solutions. The organization will offer technical input, promote credible emissions reductions, and advocate for climate justice—especially in support of local communities and nature-based projects.

As part of its engagement, Verra will contribute to regional policy dialogues, knowledge-sharing initiatives, and cross-sector partnerships, reinforcing its leadership in setting trusted frameworks such as the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and the Sustainable Development Verified Impact Standard (SD VISta).

A Strategic Regional Shift

This partnership marks a broader strategic pivot for Verra as it increasingly engages with emerging markets where sustainable finance can deliver outsized environmental and socioeconomic returns. By embedding itself within the SSFA, Verra is well-positioned to support a just transition, ensuring that carbon markets and climate finance benefit both planet and people.
