L’Oréal Launches €100M Innovation Accelerator for Sustainability in Beauty Industry

L’Oréal has announced the launch of a €100 million Sustainable Innovation Accelerator, a 5-year program designed to accelerate the development and deployment of cutting-edge sustainability technologies across the beauty industry. This initiative aims to address key environmental challenges and support low-carbon processesplastic alternatives, and water resilience in the company’s operations and supply chain.

The program will focus on investing in startups, SMEs, and innovation-driven companies that offer ready-to-pilot solutions aligned with L’Oréal’s ambitious sustainability goals. Target areas for innovation include biobased ingredientsfossil-free packaging alternativeswater reuse systems, and nature-based solutions.

“As we look towards 2030, we’re committed to being even more intentional and inclusive in the pursuit of sustainable innovations,” said Ezgi Barcenas, Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer at L’Oréal. “This accelerator will help address the solution gap and drive the adoption of breakthrough technologies.”

Key Sustainability Goals:

  • 100% renewable energy across global operations
  • 90% biobased ingredients and packaging materials
  • 100% water recycling for industrial use
  • 50% reduction in virgin plastic use
  • 57% cut in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, with a 28% reduction in Scope 3 emissions

The accelerator is a critical component of L’Oréal’s “L’Oréal for the Future” 2030 sustainability strategy, which outlines transformative environmental targets.

In partnership with the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), the initiative will foster innovation, identifying scalable solutions that align with the company’s sustainability objectives.

“This program marks a key moment for L’Oréal to lead the way in sustainable beauty innovations. We are eager to collaborate with startups and SMEs to develop solutions that reduce our environmental footprint,” Barcenas added.
